چکیده

Abstract Background The purpose of the study was to investigate whether pelvic incidence (PI) will affect occurrence PJK in Lenke 5 AIS patients after correction surgery and try explore a better surgical scheme based on PI. Methods 5C that underwent with minimum 2-year follow-up were identified. Demographic radiographic data collected preoperatively, postoperatively, at final follow-up. comparison between Non-PJK group conducted subgroup analysis performed preoperative value PI potential mechanism PJK. Clinical assessments using Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)-22 questionnaire. Results mean Cobb angle TL/L curve 53.4°±8.6. At follow-up, drastically decreased 7.3°±6.8 ( P < 0.001). 18.6 %, 21.9 % (7/32) low (PI 45°) 15.8 (6/38) high ≥ 45°), there no statistical difference two groups (χ 2 = 0.425, 0.514). For patients, is significant where UIV located regards TK apex subgroups 1.103, 0.401). more likely occur when cephalad than caudal (31.25 vs. 4.7 0.038). There selection LIV groups. Conclusions (< (≥45°), but main risk factor should be different. PI, overcorrection LL strictly avoided during surgery. not or thoracic kyphosis retain mobile segments.

Could pelvic parameters determine optimal postoperative thoracic kyphosis in Lenke type 1 AIS patients?

BACKGROUND A proper restoration of sagittal alignment is essential in AIS patients, but few studies provided a formula to predict an optimal surgical thoracic kyphosis (TK) gain in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients. A formula was recently proposed (LL = (PI+TK)/2 + 10) to predict the optimal lumbar lordosis (LL) in adult spinal deformity patients, which has not been validated in ad...

Low Pelvic Incidence Is Associated With Proximal Junctional Kyphosis in Patients Treated With Growing Rods.

STUDY DESIGN Retrospective review of a prospectively collected pediatric orthopedic spine database. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether pelvic incidence (PI) changes during growing rod treatment and to report the effects of PI, if any, on complications during treatment. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Growing rods have been demonstrated to correct spinal deformity in early onset scoliosis while all...

Proximal Junctional Kyphosis in Early Onset Scoliosis

In adults and adolescents, proximal junctional failures above deformity constructs have been well established with different risk factors identified; however, the incidence, nature and clinical significance of this kyphosis remains unclear. Several reports in the literature have shed light on PJK in adults and adolescents with variable definition, incidence, prevalence, acuteness, risk factors,...

Proximal Junctional Kyphosis: Diagnosis, Pathogenesis, and Treatment

Proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) is a common radiographic finding after long spinal fusion. A number of studies on the causes, risk factors, prevention, and treatment of PJK have been conducted. However, no clear definition of PJK has been established. In this paper, we aimed to clarify the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of PJK by reviewing relevant papers that have been published to da...

Is there a correlation between pelvic incidence and proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) after surgery for adult scoliosis?

Materials and methods 78 consecutive patients (63 women 15 men) were included in the study, mean age of 66 years (range 60-77), surgically treated at our Division between 2000 and 2005. In all cases the diagnosis was idiopathic scoliosis, with positive sagittal imbalance. In 29 cases (37.2 %) a previous arthrodesis was performed. All patients were treated with posterior arthrodesis with pedicle...
